• Fort-de-France is the capital city of Martinique and the perfect place for shopping lovers, because it has many colorful markets from which you can choose al sort of souvenirs. Or you can go at the mall, called La Galleria. Visit also Fort Saint-Louis, it is a piece of history and in a part of it a local museum is opened.
• La Pagerie, is a museum dedicated to Empress Josephine. Here Marie-Josèphe-Rose Tascher was born so this is why the museum is situated here. There are various objects showed to the public, including some letters Napoleon wrote to her. Amazing gardens surrounds the museum.
• Saint-Louis Cathedral is found in Fort-de-France, but it is actually a monument of France. The cathedral is made from wood and it was designed by Pierre-Henri Picq. This is a a Roman Catholic cathedral, and you can stay and pray there.
• Saint-Pierre is one of the most famous places of interest of Martinique. It was the capital of Martinique but a volcano destroyed a part of it more than one century ago. Its entire resident people died, only one prisoner managed to survive because he was incarcerate in the prison. This is why this place is now a tourist attraction: people visit the ruins of what was once a rich city. Nowadays many of the original buildings are being reconstructed. You can dive in the Caribbean or rent a submarine to see what’s left off the ships that were in that moment in the town and see also some beautiful colored fish. Other tourists visit this place for its clean beaches.
• If this trip aroused your interest in volcanoes, than you must visit Morne Rouge also, because here is situated the House of Volcanoes. Here you will learn all that you want to know about volcanoes, how scientists know when a Volcano is going to erupt or what exactly is happening when the lava emerges from the Volcano. The House of Volcanoes started receiving its guest and teach them interesting things about volcanoes in 1991.
• Mount Pelée is in fact the volcano that destroyed in 1902 the Saint-Pierre city and killed 30000 people. It is important to know that this 4,580 ft volcano is still active and geophysicists are permanently watching it to see if there are any signs of a possible eruption.
• On every beach of Martinique you can practice all sort of water sports, like snorkeling or waterskiing.
